RN-Purneftegaz helps Kharampurovskaya agricultural community to increase the number of commercial fish population in Yamal

The Kharampurovskaya agricultural community started breeding and raising whitefish at a new fish farm under a grant program of RN-Purneftegaz (part of Rosneft Oil Company's production complex). The release of fish fry into the water bodies of the Pur-Taz river basin will increase the number of valuable commercial fish that play an important role in maintaining the traditional way of life of indigenous peoples of Yamal.

With RN-Purneftegaz’s funds, Kharampurovskaya purchased and installed equipment for new fish breeding lines in ponds. Employees of the agricultural community, mainly representatives of the indigenous peoples of the North, plan to release thousands of muksun, peled and broad whitefish fry into the new hatcheries in spring.

Earlier, the fish farm tested technologies for growing rainbow trout and broad whitefish, valuable breeds of salmon and whitefish, eggs and fry in the Yamal climate with the support of RN-Purneftegaz. The unique fish farm experience is already being duplicated in other municipalities of Yamal.

The fish farm plans to release fry into the Pur River, the largest river in Purovsky District of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Its length together with its upper inflows exceeds 1,000 kilometres and its catchment basin is 112,000 square kilometres. The spring and summer floods of the Pur River annually flood the floodplains where most fish species spawn in spring.

The release of valuable whitefish species in the vast water area of the Pur River will make a significant contribution to providing the Forest Nenets with muksun, broad whitefish, and other whitefish species, which form the basis of their diet.

One of the key areas of Rosneft's social policy is the preservation of the national culture of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional way of life. The Company's enterprises implement numerous social projects in their regions of operation, developing infrastructure in northern villages, supporting reindeer herding families, and improving the material and technical base of educational institutions, social and medical facilities in the ancestral homelands of indigenous minorities.

Since 2023, RN-Purneftegaz has been holding a grant competition for scientific, practical, educational and research projects aimed at solving social issues of the indigenous peoples of the North living in Purovsky District of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

The new format of support is designed to help preserve the traditional way of life and unique culture of indigenous peoples living in the regions of the enterprise’s operation.
