Rosneft Brings Unique Ice Show to Sochi.Park
The Sochi.Park at the Summer Olympic Games in London hosted the premiere of Sochi: Small Stories of a Big City, a theatrical ice dance spectacular sponsored by Rosneft, a general partner of Sochi 2014. The captivating show, created by Ilya Averbukh, the world figure skating champion and Olympic medallist, brought together a dazzling array of ice skating greats, with a total of six Olympic champions and 18 world champions, including Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov, Alexei Yagudin, Ilya Averbukh, Tatiana Totmyanina and Maxim Marinin.
“We didn’t expect such a warm reception. The London crowd has been so spoiled that it is difficult to amaze them. They have seen everything here, except for a musical on ice. We filled this niche. Our success is a great achievement. Each show has been met with a full house,” said the show’s director Ilya Averbukh.
This is the first time an ice show of this scale has been staged abroad. The Sochi.Park ice arena was transformed into a winter wonderland in the midst of the London summer, creating the magical atmosphere of the Sochi 2014 Games.
Sochi: Small Stories of a Big City is a new kind of ice show that combines the movements of figure skating with the elasticity of dance and the emotion of theatre with the art of the circus.
Thanks to the support of Rosneft, a general partner of Sochi 2014, each Olympic guest had the chance to enjoy the unique show. Throughout the period of the London Games, the ice arena played host to over ten shows.
