Rosneft develops technologies for development of hard-to-recover reserves
Specialists of SamaraNIPIneft (part of the Rosneft Corporate Research and Development Complex) has worked out a technology for the development of high-viscous oil deposits, which consists of additional drilling of an injection well with thermal reservoir treatment. This solution makes it possible to achieve a 30% increase in the project cost efficiency and the effect is greater, the greater the thickness of the reservoir being developed.
The development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2022 strategy. The Company pays special attention to innovations and the use of breakthrough digital and engineering approaches defining technological leadership as the key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.
High-viscous oils belong to hard-to-recover reserves i.e. hydrocarbon reserves which, for geological reasons, are either economically unattractive or inefficient to produce using the conventional technologies. The main reservoirs of the Company's high-viscous oil are concentrated in the formations of West Siberia – over 6 billion tons.
The technology of high-viscous oil development has been patented and is planned to be tested at U-2 formation of the Karabikulovskoye field in the Samara Region.
For reference:
SamaraNIPIneft provides research and engineering support of the entire oil production cycle. The development strategy of this Institute ensures high-priority implementation of the works aimed at achieving the goals of Rosneft in the Central Region and East Siberia; the Institute provides research and development support for the production activities of AO Samaraneftegaz, PAO Orenburgneft and OOO Taas Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha. Key projects in the Samara Region are associated with the development of high-viscous oil fields and domanik deposits.
