Rosneft and BP Support Britten-Shostakovich Festival Orchestra
Marking the UK-Russia Year of Music in 2019, Rosneft and BP have agreed to support the creation of a unique musical joint venture, the Russo-British Britten-Shostakovich Festival Orchestra (BSFO).
The orchestra will consist of young musicians, representing leading conservatories from both countries, including the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, the Rostov State Rachmaninov Conservatory, the Royal College of Music in London, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
The orchestra will be formed and led by Jan Latham-Koenig, Creative Director of the Novaya Opera House, Moscow.
His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, Irina Shostakovich, Dmitri Shostakovich’s widow and director of the “Dmitri Shostakovich Foundation”, as well as the prominent Russian conductor, Yuri Temirkanov, will be honorary presidents of the BSFO.
In September 2019 the BSFO will give concerts in Sochi, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Edinburgh, Basingstoke, Manchester and London.
