Bashneft Acquires Controlling Stake in Sterlitamak Catalyst Plant

Bashneft (an enterprise of Rosneft Group) has bought the 51% stake in the charter capital of a privately-owned plant producing catalysts for hydrotreatment processes with a capacity of up to 4,000 tonnes per year in Sterlitamak.

The acquisition of the majority stake in the enterprise will provide Rosneft’s refineries with advanced Russian-manufactured catalyst. The plant’s products will replace foreign analogues, thus increasing the technological stability, independence, and economic efficiency of the Company’s downstream operations. The first batch of catalysts for the Ufa group’s plants will be produced and delivered for testing by September 2019.

Currently, the Company’s specialised subsidiaries play a key role in the development of the import substitution programme for the additives and catalyst production. Those are the Angarsk Plant of Catalysts and Organic Synthesis, Novokuibyshev Catalyst Plant, as well as enterprises from the corporate Research and Development Complex (Rosneft United Research and Development Centre and All-Russian Research Institute for Oil Refining), which develop and produce their own high-tech products for the oil refining industry.

The new RN-Kat LLC plant is not only capable of meeting the demand of Rosneft enterprises for hydro-treatment catalysts, but can also deliver them for commercial sale.

In 2018, the Company began using catalysts from the Angarsk Plant of Catalysts and Organic Synthesis in hydrogen production units at the Kuibyshev Refinery and Ryazan Oil Refining Company. Earlier, the same catalysts from Angarsk replaced foreign analogues of steam methane reforming in hydrogen production units at Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim, Bashneft-Novoil, and the Syzran Refinery. The share of own steam reforming catalysts in hydrogen production reached 77% at the Company’s refineries.

Note for Editors:

Rosneft pays special attention to the development of its own production of catalysts for oil refining. It is a key area to ensure the technological stability of the Company’s downstream operations and reduce its dependence on imported technologies.

The Angarsk Plant of Catalysts and Organic Synthesis produces more than 50 grades of catalysts for various refining and petrochemical processes. The total capacity of the plant is about 450 tonnes per year, which provides for more than 30% of gasoline reformers at Russian enterprises and more than 60% at Rosneft’s refineries.

In December 2016, an advanced catalyst regeneration unit was put into operation at the Novokuibyshev Catalyst Plant; it has a capacity of 4,000 tonnes per year for hydrotreating and hydrocracking processes used in the production of environmentally friendly motor fuels.
