Rosneft Applies 3D-Seismic Surveys to Improve Production Drilling
Specialists of RN-KrasnoyarskNIPIneft LLC (a subsidiary of Rosneft’s Corporate Research and Development Complex) have completed a pilot project to re-process and re-interpret 3D-seismic data acquired during the exploration of the Vankor field in 2003-2005. The use of updated seismic data has allowed to reduce geological risks of drilling, as well as to increase the accuracy of forecasting the effective length of horizontal wells from 80% to 95%, which contributes to the growth of their starting rates and accumulated oil production.
The project implementation was made possible due to the Company’s development and introduction of new seismic data processing and interpreting technologies, as well as due to the increased amount of well data obtained on the field.
Technological potential development is one of the key items of the Rosneft-2022 Strategy. The Company pays special attention to innovation and breakthroughs, recognising the technological leadership as an essential element for competitive performance on the oil market.
Following the positive results of the Vankor pilot project, specialists of RN-KrasnoyarskNIPIneft could start using 3D-seismic data in the field development commonly. At the moment, such works are being conducted at the Yurubcheno-Tokhomskoye and Kuyumbinskoye fields.
