Unique Pumping Equipment for Dry Dock Delivered to Zvezda Shipyard

Unique pumping equipment for the dry dock under construction has been delivered to the Zvezda Shipyard. Four 4,800 kW pumping units can drain approximately 600,000 cubic metres of sea water within eight hours. This is the most efficient pumping equipment to be installed at Russian shipyards.

The dry dock is the main facility of the second stage of the Zvezda Shipyard construction--it will be put into operation three years ahead of schedule, in 2020. It is one of the largest hydraulic structures in the world (overall dimensions 485m x 114m x 14m). At the moment, works on concreting walls and service galleries, dumping artificial land plots, construction of finishing and auxiliary shops, as well as cargo and finishing embankments and warehouses are being carried out at the unique hydraulic engineering structure. To close the dock, the construction of a bateau port, a floating hydraulic gate, is in progress.

In addition, the commissioning of the Goliath crane with a lifting capacity of 1200 tonnes is being completed. The crane will provide unloading of large-size and heavy equipment coming in by sea.

Specifications of the dry dock will make it possible to build the majority of existing and future types of vessels with virtually no restrictions on tonnage and launching weight of hulls, including the world’s most powerful nuclear-powered icebreaker, Leader.

The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is constructed by the Rosneft-led Consortium upon instruction of President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Zvezda’s operational programme has been developed up to 2035 and comprises 178 vessels and marine equipment of various types. The Shipyard’s order portfolio amounts to 39 vessels (59 vessels including options) at the moment. The Shipyard’s pilot throughput is provided for by Rosneft that placed an order for 28 vessels.

Zvezda’s product line will include vessels of up to 350 tonnes displacement, components of marine platforms, ice-class vessels, commercial vessels for cargo transportation, specialty vessels, and other types of marine equipment of any complexity, characteristics and purposes, including those that had not previously been produced in Russia due to the lack of required launching and hydraulic structures.
