Rosneft Sells more than 200 Commercial Licenses to Oilfield Service and Oil and Gas Companies for Hydraulic Fracture Simulator RN-GRID
Rosneft Oil Company sold more than 200 commercial licenses for the use of the RN-GRID software complex, which is used to conduct all operations and engineering evaluations necessary for fracturing treatment design. The software was sold to the largest Russian and international oilfield services and oil and gas companies.
As part of implementing the Company’s digital strategy, Rosneft has developed Eurasia’s first industrial simulator of hydraulic fracturing RN-GRID in 2017. The import-substituting complex ensures the technological independence of the Company in the field of computer modelling, which is mandatory for application of hydraulic fracturing technology.
At the beginning of 2018, Rosneft introduced RN-GRID at its internal hydraulic fracturing in-house service enterprises, completely abandoning its Western counterparts. Also, in 2018, Rosneft began commercial sales of RN-GRID. The software complex is much cheaper than foreign software. The appearance on the Russian domestic development market has led to increased competition and reduced prices for foreign counterparts.
Contracts for another 50 licenses are at the conclusion stage; in addition, 140 academic licenses were transferred to the Company’s partner universities. More than 40 test licenses were transferred to 16 oilfield service and oil and gas companies to study RN-GRID’s capabilities.
Currently, companies in the Asia Pacific Region are negotiating with Rosneft to purchase licenses to use RN-GRID simulator.
Note for Editors:
The RN-GRID software complex allows to conduct all operations and engineering evaluations necessary for fracturing treatment design. loading and visualization of large volumes of initial data, creation of a geomechanical reservoir model, analysis of diagnostic injections, design calculation and analysis of actual hydrofracturing operations using an extensive database of process fluids and proppants for hydrofracturing.
The mathematical model of the RN-GRID simulator is based on the most up-to-date Planar3D concept which allows to describe the complex geometry of a rock fissure that appears as a result of hydrofracturing with utmost precision. This gives RN-GRID an advantage over Western commercial alternatives, most of which use simplified methods. A special achievement of Rosneft’s scientists is the know-how in the field of high-performance computing obtained during the creation of RN-GRID, which made the domestic simulator one of the fastest in the world.
