East Siberian Oil and Gas Company (Vostsibneftegaz), Rosneft’s subsidiary, started new grant scheme for the realization of the most important scientific projects in the Krasnoyarsk Region. In 2020, the enterprise has provided funding for studying of the key ecosystems of Tunguska Nature Reserve, for a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by wildland fires in Evenkiya, and for the creation of the first electronic Evenk-Russian Dictionary.
For six years, Vostsibneftegaz has been supporting scientific projects, which are beneficial for the Northern Territory of Evenkiya. In this year, the Company received more than 30 applications for grant scheme from scientific and social organizations of the Siberian Federal District.
Presentation of the best scientific projects was held in Krasnoyarsk during the round table on cooperation with the indigenous minorities of the North. Environmentalists and representatives of local communities and regional authorities commended the importance of the grant scheme for the Evenki municipal region of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and for the contribution of Rosneft to the social and environmental sphere of the territory of its presence.
In 2020, with the support of Vostsibneftegaz, the implementation of the Tunguska Nature Reserve project will be continued. Last year, Russian scientists, together with colleagues from the United States, Czech Republic and Italy, have conducted research of the bottom sediments of the reserve’s deep-water lakes to obtain data on the natural events in Evenkia, the most mysterious of which is the fall of the Tunguska Meteorite. This year, within the grant scheme, specialists will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the sustainability of ecosystems in the reserve under the low levels of anthropogenic impact. According to biologists, the project is necessary to deal with fundamental issues related to climate change and natural systems of the region. Based on the data obtained, changes occurred over the past two thousand years in ecosystems will be observed. Also, due to gathered information, in the future specialists will be able to forecast fire conditions in the Eastern Siberia forests.
The Siberian Federal University’s Institute of Ecology and Geography’s project will help in assessing the consequences of the extensive wildlife fires in Eastern Siberia in summer 2019. Scientists will assess conditions and stability of the Central Evenkiya landscape by means of comprehensive analysis of vegetation cover and soil conditions after the fire at experimental sites. A comprehensive monitoring will be held for the first time throughout the region. The expected results will form the basis for assessing the potential of the northern landscapes of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for restoration and will help to develop detailed recommendations for natural resources recovery.
Evenki linguists from the Yakutsk Scientific Center at the Institute for Humanitarian Research and Indigenous Studies of the North, with the support of Rosneft, will develop the first electronic version of the Evenki-Russian dictionary. The program will be adapted for extensive use and implemented at the unique site about the Evenki language, culture and folklore, created as part of the Revival of Evenki language project in 2018 by linguists of the Siberian Federal University with the support of Vostsibneftegaz.
