Rosneft Celebrates World Water Day
Rosneft and its subsidiaries have celebrated World Water Day - an observance day adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. The World Water Day 2020 campaign is dedicated to Water and Climate Change.
Environmental responsibility is an integral part of the Company’s corporate culture and one of the key principles of its operations. To demonstrate its commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals, Rosneft is implementing a comprehensive water conservation programme using cutting-edge technologies.
Major investment projects of the Company include construction of recycled water supply unit in Novokuibyshevsk Oils and Additives Plant, treated wastewater disposal facilities in Rospan International, wastewater treatment facilities in Tuapse and RN-Nakhodka Marine Terminals.
In 2019, the biological treatment facility of Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim reached its design capacity. The Ufaneftekhim plant is one of the Company’s flagship environmental investment projects in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The 84,000 cmpd facility is the largest treatment plant in Eurasia. It significantly improves the quality of wastewater treatment and increases the rate of treated water reuse simultaneously reducing intakes from water bodies by 2.5 times.
In the Republic of Ingushetia, Rosneft helped to implement a large-scale water-supply improvement project so that in 2019, water supply facilities were commissioned in Nazran town and in six rural settlements around. Over 40 km of water pipeline, three water tanks and eight artesian wells were completed there to supply clean drinking water to the local population.
The Company also supports a number of socially important environmental projects in the Republic of Bashkortostan, such as organizing water supply in Tarqazy settlement and repair of water supply networks in 11 settlements of Yermekeyevsky, Ishimbaysky, and Chekmagushevsky districts.
In Khanty-Mansi District--Yugra work is underway to start the construction of a modular water treatment plant in the settlement of Karkateyevy.
As part of the Clean Water Federal project, Achinsk Refinery supported a project to provide clean drinking water to settlements in the Bolsheuluisk District of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The programme is being implemented in cooperation with the Administration of the District.
Note:
In January 2020, Rosneft was awarded a B- in the international Water Resources Category ranking by CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) for its water management actions. B- position is considered to be the world’s average.
A total of 2,435 companies participated in the rating, including 109 oil and gas companies from 28 countries. It was the first time for Rosneft to participate in the CDP Water Resources ranking. Such a high ranking result shows the efficiency and effectiveness of the Company’s environmental activities.
According to UN, fresh water accounts for only 2.5% of the total volume of water on Earth. Today, three out of ten people globally have no access to safe drinking water. Global water deficit may reach 40% by 2030. On the backdrop of that the CDP Water Resources rating is becoming more and more important, encouraging companies, financial markets and governments to grow without depleting the fresh water resources and invest in the economy that provides for sustainable water supply.
