Rosneft Finalizes the Results of the Pipeline Reliability Improvement Programme (2015-2019) and Launches Another (2020-2025)
Rosneft completed the 2015-2019 Pipeline Reliability Programme in 2019. As a result, the number of pipeline failures decreased by 32% compared to 2013. In 2019 alone, the Company allocated more than 23 billion roubles under the Programme, including 14.3 billion roubles for pipeline replacement and more than 9 billion roubles for maintaining pipeline operational reliability.
The large-scale Pipeline Reliability Programme implemented in accordance with the Rosneft-2022 Strategy, includes pipelines modernization, overhaul and repair. At the end of 2019, over 1,400 km of operating pipelines were replaced.
In order to maintain the operational reliability of the oil transportation system, diagnostic measures (including the in-line ones) are taken to detect the development of pipeline defects at early stages and to eliminate them in time. Inhibitor protection of pipeline systems helps the formation of a protective film on the metal surface, reducing the corrosion rate of pipelines. The internal cavity of the pipelines is cleaned to maintain the flow capacity, prevent stagnation and accumulation of internal deposits.
Rosneft has launched the new large-scale 2020-2025 Pipeline Reliability Improvement Programme in 2020. 28 oil and gas producing enterprises of the Company take part in this programme. The main objectives for the period of the Programme implementation are the following:
- field pipeline failures decrease by 20% compared to the 2019 levels,
- increased in-pipe diagnostics to monitor the condition of the pipelines,
- selection, testing and implementation of new technologies and materials that provide protection against corrosion and deposits,
- development and implementation of field pipeline fleet operational control and condition analysis tools.
The 2020-2025 Pipeline Reliability Improvement Programme provides for the reconstruction of 10,000 km of pipelines, overhaul and maintenance of 7,000 km of transport networks.
