Rosneft Develops Environmentally Friendly Drilling Fluids Production Technology
Rosneft and specialists of the Siberian Federal University have developed the technology of production of environmentally friendly drilling fluids based on seed oils and containing biodegradable components.
The development of Russian green drilling fluids rivalling costly foreign analogues in terms of functionality is the task of utmost importance. Drilling fluids of the high environmental standard can be used in the development of the fields with the fragile ecosystem of the Far North, including those of the Vostok Oil project.
Now the key Company’s academic partner in Eastern Siberia is conducting complex fundamental research of the formulae of next-generation green drilling fluids. The work is conducted on two fronts at once. The first is the research of the modifications of tree bark and the hydrolysis lignin (a complex polymeric compound contained in the cells of vascular plants) to add the new physical and chemical properties. It is necessary for the production of environmentally friendly drill fluids, organic binding materials, and absorbents. The work is conducted together with the Institute of the Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the RAS Siberian branch.
The second is the development of biodegradable components for the drilling fluids based on the technical seed oils produced from the Cruciferae oilseeds cultivated in Krasnoyarsk Region. This work is conducted jointly with the specialists of the Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University.
Note for Editors:
Since 2020, SFU has been participating as an educational partner organisation in a programme to train workers and engineers for Rosneft’s innovative projects in Eastern Siberia.
In addition, the university cooperates with a range of Company’s subsidiaries, as follows:
- RN-Vankor,
- the Achinsk Refinery,
- Vostsibneftegaz,
- RN-KrasnoyarskNIPIneft,
- RN-Krasnoyarsknefteproduct,
- the branch of RN-Burenie in Eastern Siberia,
- Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz.
The Siberian Federal University cooperates with Rosneft in pre-university training of schoolchildren in Rosneft classes. The cooperation is aimed to provide additional education in major subjects (maths, physics, chemistry), to organize career days for the schoolchildren. Currently, 10 Rosneft classes with 200 pupils are operating at five settlements in the territory of Krasnoyarsk Region. Each year, Rosneft classes’ graduates enter the SFU into the Company’s major fields of education. Currently, more than 150 Rosneft classes’ graduates study in the university.
More than 100 Rosneft classes and the Siberian Federal university graduates with industry-specific education work in the Company.
