Zvezda Shipyard Delivers New Residential District in Bolshoy Kamen
Employees at the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex were presented with 228 new flats on the shipyard’s fifth anniversary. The official commissioning ceremony for the five residential buildings was the culmination of the construction of the second stage of the Sixth Residential Area of Bolshoy Kamen; four houses of the first stage were finished at the beginning of summer.
The commissioned houses are the next phase of a project to build housing for Zvezda employees. The shipyard’s workforce has now increased to over 4,000 people, and the number of employees will have exceeded 7,000 by the time all of the shipyard’s facilities are commissioned. Together with their family members, the population of Bolshoy Kamen will have increased by almost a third. Providing housing and infrastructure for shipbuilders is one of the priority tasks, with houses being built at the same time as the shipyard itself.
The housing programme for shipbuilders has been in place since 2016. Over this time, Zvezda has commissioned 10 residential buildings with a total of 480 flats in two residential areas, Fifth and Sixth. At the same time, work is continuing in other residential areas, such as Parkovyy, Sadovyy, Nagornyy and Zelenyy, which will soon be added to Bolshoy Kameny’s housing stock. Construction and design work is being concurrently carried out on 58 houses.
A total of 5,789 flats will be built for the shipbuilders in the urban district, with the participation of contractors for both the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex (5,039 flats) and the Primorsky Krai Administration (750 flats).
Bolshoy Kamen has been given a new impetus for development through the implementation of the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex project. The shipbuilding cluster being formed in the Russian Far East is creating thousands of jobs and contributing to the economic development of the region.
In order to attract specialists, the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre, which includes the Zvezda shipyard, is working extensively to train and attract qualified personnel.
Note for Editors:
The Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is established at the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Centre (FESRC) by the Rosneft-led consortium, upon the instruction of the President of Russia.
The shipyard project comprises launched and operating objects, such as the hull production facility, painting cabinets, and open heavy outfitting berth, as well as second-train objects under construction, such as the dry dock, full-cycle production shops, and shops for offshore marine equipment.
Zvezda is designed to manufacture large-capacity vessels, ice-class ships with water displacement of up to 350,000 tonnes, special-purpose vessels, and other marine equipment, some of which has never been produced in Russia before.
