Rosneft Launches Updated Black and Azov Seas Biology Course
On December 15, Rosneft has launched an updated free online course “Black and Azov Seas Biology” developed jointly with Lectorum Publications, the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Lomonosov Moscow State University Marine Research Centre.
The course consists of 22 lectures by scientists on the history of the seas: how they were formed, how their ecosystems have changed and how humans have explored them. The lecture course is founded on the data from the Black and Azov Seas environmental atlas published by Rosneft together with Innopraktika. Over 40 specialists contributed to the creation of the Atlas, including 20 Candidates of Sciences and eight Doctors of Sciences from the leading universities and scientific organisations, as well as representatives of the region’s environmentally sensitive areas.
The first version of the online course launched in September 2020 received high acclaim from trainees and attracted more than 1,500 students. By popular demand, the Company has launched the revised Course. The main difference to the first version is that all lectures and practice tests will be available in one go, allowing people to complete the course at their own pace.
The participants will learn the up-to-date information about the Black and Azov Seas ecosystem conditions, the changes happening in the waters due to natural and anthropogenic factors. In addition, the lectures provide information about the composition and diversity of plankton, seaweed, bottom invertebrates, and different groups of animals (fish, birds, and marine mammals), as well as immigrant species who appeared in the Black Sea accidentally or due to human activities.
The lecture course is based upon materials from the Black and Azov Seas environmental atlas that Rosneft published this year jointly with the Innopraktika non-governmental development institute. The atlas is available on the Company’s official website at https://www.rosneft.ru/upload/site1/attach/0/88/20/Ekologicheskij_atlas_CHernoe_i_Azovskoe_morya.pdf.
