Yuganskneftegaz Remediates More Than 230 Hectares of Land in 2020

RN-Yuganskneftegaz, Rosneft’s largest production asset, has remediated over a thousand land plots with a total area of over 230 hectares in 2020 as part of its long-term environmental protection and restoration programme.

Protection of the environment is one of the key items of the Rosneft-2022 Strategy. The Company improves its approach to environmental management, increasing the scale of environmental measures and the required investments.

RN-Yuganskneftegaz’s land reclamation programme for the period from 2019 to 2024 has been approved by the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area--Yugra Environmental Control and Supervision Service. Since the start of the programme, the enterprise has remediated more than 2,000 plots with a total area of about 570 hectares. The reclaimed land has already been positively certified by state authorities in the region.

As a result, the area of polluted land at Yuganskneftegaz’ license areas has decreased by more than 20% over the last three years.

The land is restored in accordance with the design documentation developed by RN-Yuganskneftegaz specialists and qualified organisations, taking into account the individual characteristics of each site. During the land restoration, the enterprise uses and introduces unique developments of the Company aimed to improve the quality of information about the state of soil in the license areas. The integrated approach is implemented with the help of state-of-the-art equipment, such as amphibious excavators, large-tonnage all-terrain vehicles, floating marsh vehicles, snowmobiles, small off-road vehicles.

Note for Editors:

RN-Yuganskneftegaz LLC is the key asset of Rosneft Oil Company providing about 30% of the its total output. The enterprise is consistently expanding its territory of operation, conducting geological exploration and field development at 39 license areas with a total area of over 21,000 square kilometres.

The development of RN-Yuganskneftegaz’s fields began in 1961, which explains the amount of ‘historical heritage’ land in the enterprise’s license areas.
