World Sambo Cup Supported by Rosneft Takes Place in Moscow

A. Kharlampiev Memorial Sambo World Cup takes place in Moscow on March 25-26, 2021. Rosneft was the general partner of the tournament.

The competitions were in men’s, women’s and combat sambo disciplines. The duels were fought in the presence of spectators with a 50% occupancy rate. This decision was taken by the organisers due to the challenging epidemiological situation in the country and in accordance with the recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor.

Fans watched the exciting bouts live on the FIAS website, on the Federation’s social media channels and on the Match.Fighter TV channel.

Around 300 athletes took part in the competition, representing 16 countries--Armenia, Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

A special feature of this year’s World Cup was that participating countries were allowed to field two teams so that two representatives from each country could compete in the same weight category. In addition, the tournament was held in new international weight classes for the first time.

Over the two days, 21 sets of medals were drawn in different weight categories.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, Moscow Sports and Tourism Department, International Sambo Federation (FIAS), Russian Sambo Federation (RSSF) and Moscow Sambo Federation.
