Samotlorneftegaz Divested More than 4 Billion Roubles at Reclamation in 5 Years
Samotlorneftegaz, an oil-producing enterprise of Rosneft, systematically reduces the number of legacy lands. In 2015-2020, the enterprise's specialists passed more than 1,300 hectares of the remediated lands to the state commission. Total investment to the reclamation activities exceeded 4 billion roubles. In 2021, Samotlorneftegaz plans to remediate 225 hectares of land.
To achieve the best performance in environmental protection, the Company improves approaches to environmental management, increases the scale of environmental measures and the necessary investments for these purposes.
Samotlorneftegaz was the first in Russia to introduce the method of winter recultivation that provides for year-round land clean-up activities. More than 60% of enterprise's licence area is made up of marshlands and wetland lakes. It is technically impossible to carry out remediation measures on sites with such landscape characteristics during the warm season, that is why about 70% of reclamation works are conducted in the winter season.
An in-house Environmental Remediation Facility has been set up at Samotlorneftegaz to improve environmental safety. The subdivision is in charge of immediate response to pipeline failures and land remediation. The specialists of the facility have 70 unique and specialised machines at their disposal, including swamp excavators, indispensable for excavation and grading work in highly marshy areas and even on water.
