Nyaganneftegaz Releases More than One Million Fry of Red Book Species into Reservoirs
Nyaganneftegaz, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, released about 1,200,000 fry of muksun and Siberian sturgeon into Reservoirs of the Tyumen Region and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra during the spring and summer period of 2021.
The artificial stocking of Russian reservoirs with fish is carried out as part of the implementation of Rosneft Oil Company’s strategic tasks in environmental protection, including a set of measures for ecosystems and biodiversity protection and restoration of natural resources.
Red book fry are farmed in the nurseries of Omsk. According to standards, fry must weigh at least one and a half grams before being released into open water. Fry, farmed upon Nyaganneftegaz request, struck out on their own, weighing more than three grams.
The release of the fry was supervised by representatives of the territorial offices of the Federal Agency for Fishery. In the rivers of the Ob-Irtysh basin, fries will grow into full-grown fishes, then migrate downstream to other waters of the region and beyond.
