Angarsk Petrochemical Company Becomes Laureate of Russian ‘Reliable Partner in Ecology’ Contest
Angarsk Petrochemical Company, an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company’s refining complex, has become a laureate of the 3rd national contest for leading regional environmental practices “Reliable Partner in Ecology”. Angarsk Petrochemical Company has been awarded a diploma in the Best Promising Project and Development category for its initiative to improve the properties of low-viscosity marine fuels.
The enterprise developed technology, determined optimal parameters for the production of marine fuels with improved environmental and performance characteristics, including TMS-A-Eco, an Arctic marine fuel with a freezing point as low as 50 °C below zero. The use of such fuel reduces the impact on atmospheric air and expands the options for its application by ships in northern latitudes.
Environment protection is an integral part of Rosneft Oil Company’s corporate culture and one of the key principles of its business. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimising the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production.
Angarsk Petrochemical Company is putting in place a set of measures to improve its environmental performance. Angarsk Petrochemical Company invests in major projects aimed at reducing the impact on air, improving the quality of wastewater purification, reducing the generation of production and consumption waste.
As part of its environmental programme, Angarsk Petrochemical Company is consistently reducing its environmental impact. Over the past few years, 30,000 fry of valuable whitefish have been released into the Bratsk reservoir in order to replenish aquatic biological resources.
The enterprise’s employees take part in a variety of environmental campaigns every year. More than 2,000 employees cleaned up around 72 hectares of land and collected 55 tonnes of rubbish as part of Green Spring, the National Clean Up day held in May 2021. In September, Angarsk petrochemists planted about 200 lilac, poplar and rowan trees in the Angarsk Urban District to mark Oil and Gas Industry Workers’ Day. And in October, the enterprise’s employees cleaned up more than 60,000 square metres of the Lake Baikal shoreline and collected about 240 kilograms of litter.
The enterprise’s strong environmental work has been recognised with numerous awards. In 2019, Angarsk Petrochemical Company was the winner of the 15th Environmental Leader National Competition in the Best Sustainable Monotown Enterprise category. And in 2020, the enterprise won the 2nd national contest “Reliable Partner in Ecology” in the category “Best Project Implemented in the Field of Secondary Raw Materials Processing”.
