Rosneft Improves Pipeline Reliability

Specialists from Samotlorneftegaz and RN-BashNIPIneft (enterprises of Rosneft Oil Company), in cooperation with BP, have developed unique software to protect in-field pipelines from internal corrosion. Based on the physical and chemical features of the pumped liquid and corrosion monitoring statistics, the software provides for assessing the current state of the pipeline, calculating the internal corrosion rate, determining its type, and recommending measures with capital and operating cost expenses.

In order to achieve the best performance and the strategic goal in environmental protection defined in the Rosneft 2022 Strategy, the Company improves approaches to environmental management, increases the scale of environmental measures and the necessary investments for these purposes.

By now, the software has been used to analyse more than 280 km of oilfield pipelines at the Samotlor field. The new technology has halved the time it takes to assess the condition of the pipeline fleet. Savings from the implementation of those measures amounted to 70 million roubles.

The new technology of Samotlorneftegaz, which received a state certificate of intellectual property rights registration, is a logical continuation of the enterprise’s efforts to digitise its production processes. Further software functionality will be extended to automate the data entry process and improve the efficiency of measures to protect pipelines against internal corrosion.
