Rosneft Performs Reforestation Work in Samara Region
Employees of Kuibyshev Refinery (part of Rosneft's refining complex) planted over a thousand pine seedlings in the Volga forestry of the Samara region.
Environmental protection for future generations is an unconditional priority for Rosneft. The Company runs a number of extensive environmental programmes and maintains a leading position in minimising its environmental footprint and making its operations environmentally friendly. Rosneft annually invests significant funds in environmental protection activities, including the implementation of forest restoration and compensation programmes.
Thanks to Kuibyshev Refinery employees, young conifers are now growing on two hectares of previously vacant territory in the Krasnoyarsk district of the Samara region. Artificial planting considerably shortens the reforestation period after adverse natural phenomena - floods, fires, pest invasions, as well as human economic activity. Reforestation also protects the soil from erosion by preventing the formation of gullies, and helps to preserve ecological balance and biodiversity.
The Kuibyshev refinery has spent more than 20 billion roubles on environmental protection measures over the past few years. Thanks to the green investments, the plant has reduced its air pollution by 2.5 times. The enterprise has built new production units and upgraded existing industrial facilities. Significant projects include the conversion of the refinery's power plant from liquid fuel to gas, reconstruction of the petroleum product discharge rack and the treatment facilities, and equipping the product and feedstock storage tanks with protective pontoons, which prevent evaporation of petroleum products into the atmosphere.
Note for Editors:
The Kuibyshev Refinery takes systematic and proactive measures to conserve and restore natural resources. The enterprise's employees take part in all-Russian and regional environmental campaigns, such as Green Spring, Springs of Samara Region, Volga Day, Garden of Memory, and Cedars of Russia.
The enterprise is a six-time winner of the All-Russian competition Leader in Environmental Protection in the category Best Environmental Policy in the Refining Industry.
Reforestation in the Samara region is a part of the Forest Conservation regional project of the Ecology national project. The main purpose of the project is to increase the area of forestland in the region from 13% to 25%.
