Rosneft Develops Coiled Tubing Technologies

Specialists of the Rosneft Scientific Institute RN-BashNIPIneft have expanded the functionality of the corporate coiled tubing (CT*) operations simulator "RN-VECTOR". The import-substituting product ensures the technological independence of the Company in the field of computer modeling.

Technological potential development is one of the most significant points of the Rosneft-2030 Strategy. As technological leadership is a key to being competitive on the oil market, the Company’s priority is innovation activity.

The unique software "RN-VECTOR" allows design, control and analysis of CT operations results, as well as solving the problems of finding well construction optimal parameters at the stage of planning oil and gas field development. The Company’s internal service switched to 100% use of "RN-VECTOR" in designing and performing CT operations. The software licenses are already available for purchase.

Guided by production tasks and user requests, RN-BashNIPIneft specialists supplemented "RN-VECTOR" software with the ability to take into account the inflow from the reservoir or fluid loss during the CT operation, which is especially important when performing operations on wells with abnormally high or low reservoir pressure. New modeling options have been added: influence of temperature effects on CT, detailed calculation of attachments hydraulics, taking into account CT diameter and wall thickness change due to fatigue wear.

It is impossible to effectively apply the CT technology without detailed modeling of CT operations. Rosneft is focused on developing engineering competencies and domestic solutions for modeling key oil and gas production processes as part of the import substitution program.
