Samotlorneftegaz Improves Multistage Hydraulic Fracturing Technology

Samotlorneftegaz, an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company’s oil and gas production complex, conducted the first multistage hydraulic fracturing (MSHF) operation in the domestic industry, using a unique set of technologies. The innovative approach reduces the drilling and completion cycle per well to 5 days, from 47 to 42. The economic effect of drilling one well is about 4,5 million roubles.

Rosneft is consistently implementing a programme to improve production efficiency at mature fields by introducing advanced drilling and well construction technologies and applying a range of geological and technical measures. Accelerated technological development in all areas of activity is one of the priorities of the Rosneft-2030 Strategy.

In the future, the development of the technology will make it possible to carry out fracturing operations with an unlimited number of stages and increase the start-up capacity of wells by an average of 40%.

Note for Editors:

Samotlorneftegaz is one of Rosneft’s main production assets. The enterprise is actively developing MSHF technology. The Samotlor field saw the first 20-stage hydraulic fracturing well drilled in 2015, the first in the domestic oil industry. The maximum number of stages was later increased to 29.
