Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha Releases More than 700,000 Fry into Yakutia’s Rivers
Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha LLC, an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company, released about 705,000 whitefish fry (peled) into a flow of the Akhtaranda River, continuing work to replenish the bioresources of the Vilyuy reservoir in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
One of Rosneft’s main priorities is the conservation of biodiversity and the balance of ecosystems in the regions of its operations. Releasing the fry into their natural habitat is part of the aquatic bioresources artificial reproduction programme designed to preserve the biodiversity and to increase the fish population.
Over the past seven years, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha has released more than 4 million whitefish fry into the Vilyui reservoir. At the enterprise’s request, the fry are raised in a specialised fish-farm, with water supplied from the Vilyui reservoir, which facilitates the subsequent adaptation of the fry in the reservoir.
Students of the Mirny Polytechnic Institute took part in this year’s event. Educating future oil workers on Rosneft’s values, which include caring for the environment, is one of the areas of environmental education work. The students were introduced to the technological processes of the fish factory and the preparation of the fry for the “great swim”. Under expert guidance, they released the fry into the river.
Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha is improving its approaches to environment-oriented management in order to achieve the best environmental performance. The enterprise pays special attention to the preservation of Yakutia’s unique nature. The enterprise’s employees take an active part in landscaping and area cleaning projects, as well as in the nationwide clean-up events, Clean Banks and Green Spring.
Moreover, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha is conducting reforestation activities in the territory of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It is planned to plant seedlings on more than 280 hectares of land in the Lenskiy district this year.
