Ryazan Oil Refining Company Supports Environmental Expedition of Schoolchildren to the Oka Nature Reserve
Supported by the Ryazan Oil Refining Company (part of Rosneft’s refining complex), students from the Master of Meshchera children’s public environmental organisation took part in a research expedition to the protected areas of the Oka Biosphere State Reserve.
Fifty schoolchildren under the guidance of scientific staff of the reserve during the week studied the flora and fauna of a specially protected natural area. Young naturalists made hydrobiological, zoological and entomological expeditions. The children took part in cleaning up the glades, weeding the arboretum, and cleaning the Pra River bank of garbage. The young naturalists prepared a site for the construction of a feeding kitchen for the Red book cranes.
Schoolchildren studied the Adopt a Bison project being implemented in the reserve. In autumn, after the baby is born in the family of forest giants, they plan to take care of the newborn bison: to give it a name and assist in its care until it grows up.
Preserving the environment for future generations is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s development strategy. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimising the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production and implements several comprehensive programmes for the preservation and restoration of natural resources.
Ryazan Oil Refining Company has been supporting the initiatives of volunteer environmentalists of Master of Meshchera organisation since 2011. This year alone, with the support of the oil refinery, schoolchildren went on ecological expeditions to the villages of Agro-Pustyn and Papushevo in Ryazan District, worked at the Participation in the Preservation of Natural and Cultural Heritage Annual Scientific and Practical Conference, and visited the State Darwin Museum.
