Rosneft Invests Over 530 Million Roubles in Environmental Protection Measures at Fields in Irkutsk Region

Rosneft has invested more than 530 million roubles in environmental protection measures for its production projects in the Irkutsk region in the H1 2022. The funds were used for the gas programme, waste management, pipeline reliability, environmental monitoring and the purchase of appropriate equipment.

High environmental performance standards and the development of environmental technologies are a key element of Rosneft’s strategy. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production.

Rosneft has implemented a project at the Verkhnechonskoye field that is unique in Eastern Siberia for the utilisation of associated petroleum gas (APG) in an autonomous field. Gas is injected into the subsurface for storage and subsequent utilisation. As part of the project, investments in the H1 included the construction of gas injection wells to inject gas into an underground gas storage.

The Company is building a gas pipeline and a power plant in the North Danilovsky oil and gas condensate field, fueled by APG. Funds were also used to conduct continuous environmental monitoring at exploration and appraisal wells.

Plastic waste shredding equipment has been purchased for the Verkhnechonskoye field for subsequent plastic recycling.

Under the Targeted Pipeline Reliability Improvement Programme, a large scope of technical diagnostics was carried out to determine the technical condition of the pipelines, including ultrasonic thickness measurement, magnetic particle and dimensional inspection, as well as checks for corrosion activity and stray currents and deformations. Pipelines in the Verkhnechonskoye field are equipped with intelligent pig receiving and launching assemblies. The total length of the Verkhnechonskoye pipeline system exceeds 950 km.

Note for Editors:

Rosneft is developing the Verkhnechonskoye oil and gas condensate field, one of the largest in Eastern Siberia, in the Katanga district of the Irkutsk region.

The Company has established the Danilovsky field cluster in the north of the region. The Severo-Danilovskoye oil and gas condensate field became the priority and base for the subsequent involvement of the satellite fields – Yuzhno-Danilovskoye, Zapadno-Danilovskoye, Verkhneicherskoye and Lysovsky.

Significant synergies in their development have been achieved through the joint use of oil treatment and transportation infrastructure using the operating facilities of the Verkhnechonskoye field.
