New Era School in Tulun Becomes Participant in Ministry of Education’s Pilot Federal Project
On September 1, the New Era School in Tulun (Irkutsk region), built by Rosneft Oil Company on behalf of the President of Russia, has entered a pilot project “School of the Ministry of Education of Russia”.
The purpose of the Ministry of Education’s new project is to create equal conditions for education for every schoolchild regardless of their social factors, place of residence or family affluence.
The federal project’s site was chosen because of the high level of technical equipment in the school and the qualifications of the teaching staff. Rosneft supplied the school with innovative equipment that made it a unique multifunctional educational complex. Graduates from the Tulun school are accepted into Russia’s leading institutions of higher education.
There are more than 1,200 children studying at New Era. The building covers almost 23,000 square metres and consists of five blocks housing 67 classrooms. Rosneft made provisions for six computer science rooms, a children’s robotics class, a design studio, a TV studio, an engineering class, a language laboratory, and a museum with an exhibition and educational display. Science classrooms are equipped with laboratory complexes and digital laboratories. The school has two swimming pools, a multi-purpose sports hall and a sports ground.
For the school, Rosneft purchased a library with a collection of more than 37,000 books and textbooks, electronic aids, didactic and methodological materials, as well as everything necessary for the learning process.
The high qualifications of the teaching staff were a reason for the decision to participate in the project. The school management plans to expand the range of learning opportunities, improve the quality of the educational process, create an inclusive space, introduce health-saving technologies and psychologically motivate pupils.
Following the experience of the first years of operation, the school begins the new school year by designing a development programme. The project participants ran a first-stage diagnostic. One of the school’s points of growth will be the professional development of its management and teaching staff. During the summer holidays, the entire team of administrators and teaching staff—more than 60 people—underwent training. 79% of the school’s teachers now hold qualification categories, which has resulted in a high level of performance in the educational process. For instance, the quality of learning in advanced and specialised classes is 84.2%. New Era pupils perform well in the Unified State Examination. In the past academic year, there were 73 straight A’s pupils and eight medallists, six of whom had medals at the regional level, among the graduates of New Era.
With the technical capabilities that Rosneft incorporated in the facility’s, New Era will become Tulun’s networking point for the Ministry of Education’s project and other institutions in town. Participation of educational institutions in the federal project promotes the transition to a new quality level of education and the development of each child’s abilities. The newly created model of a modern school can be scaled up nationwide.
Note for Editors:
The school opened on September 1, 2020. On the instructions of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Rosneft built and fully equipped New Era School in Tulun (Irkutsk region), which suffered from a severe flood in 2019, in a record time of 300 days.
To fulfil the presidential instructions, more than a thousand builders worked daily at the construction site in difficult climatic conditions at low temperatures. The work was carried out almost around the clock.
The construction was supervised by the Angarsk Petrochemical Company, Rosneft’s largest oil refinery in Eastern Siberia.
The school was named “New Era”, symbolising a new stage in the development of education in the town of Tulun.
