Novokuibyshevsk Refinery and Samara State Technical University Sign Agreement on Environmental Cooperation
The Novokuibyshevsk refinery has signed an agreement with Samara State Technical University to implement a joint environmental programme. As part of the agreement, it is planned to reduce the human impact on the environment through the conservation and development of the green fund, monitoring and environmental education.
By combining the efforts of the scientific community and ecology students, the Novokuibyshevsk refinery intends to take a comprehensive approach to environmental issues in the Samara region, and to foster environmental responsibility among the community.
Apart from the traditional areas of environmental volunteering (cleaning, landscaping, etc.), special attention will be paid to environmental projects of the Samarskaya Luka National Park and the organisation of ecological expeditions. An information and awareness centre was opened this year in the Sosnovo-Solonetsky forest district of the Samarskaya Luka park with the financial support of the Novokuibyshevsk refinery. This is part of a project to create a tourism cluster in the Samara region based on the national park. The centre was set up to educate the public about the environment, to promote eco-lobbying and to provide environmental education in rural schools.
Environment protection is an integral part of Rosneft Oil Company’s corporate culture and social responsibility. The Company actively supports environmental projects and implements green initiatives in the regions of operation.
Note for Editors:
he staff of the Novokuibyshevsk refinery take an active part in the planting and landscaping of greenery and have initiated many environmental actions in cooperation with employees of subsidiaries of Rosneft’s Samara Refinery Group, students, and schoolchildren of Novokuibyshevsk.
In 2021, as part of the Volga Day and Green Spring federal campaigns, refinery employees cleaned up more than 120,000 square metres of city territory and removed more than 25 cubic metres of waste. The enterprise implements a programme of separate waste collection, conducts environmental education activities and, together with the city administration, organises the EcoFest environmental festival in the city. The refinery annually replenishes river biological resources by releasing fry of valuable fish species into the Volga River.
The high level of environmental education activities is confirmed by the enterprise’s victory in the creative competition of the All-Russian Green Spring campaign of the Vernadsky Non-Governmental Ecological Foundation.
Samara State Technical University is among Rosneft’s partner universities for training qualified engineering personnel, including ecologists.
