Sibneftegaz Releases 1.2 Million Peled Fry into Yugra’s Waters
The Sibneftegaz company, part of Rosneft’s gas production complex, released more than 1.2 million fry fish, a valuable commercial species of peled, into reservoirs in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous district – Yugra during the summer of this year.
Rosneft conducts stocking activities in Russia’s water reservoirs as part of the Company’s strategic goals in the field of environmental protection, which include a set of measures to restore natural resources and protect ecosystems and biodiversity.
The Yendyrskaya stream in the Oktyabrsky district of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra was chosen to release the fry. The readiness of fry to live in their natural environment was determined by an expert commission, which included representatives of the Nizhneobskoye Territorial Administration of Federal Agency for Fishery and the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography. The fry were released when their weight reached 1 gram, after 3 years the fry will reach a high fishery return rate.
The peled is of great importance to the lives and livelihoods of the indigenous peoples of the North. This fish is highly nutritious and very rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, effectively supporting the Nordic immune system. The peled quickly gains body weight, acclimatises well and gets used to the changing conditions of the environment. Such features allow this whitefish to be used for stocking rivers and lakes in a wide range of habitats.
Sibneftegaz has been stocking Siberian reservoirs since 2017, releasing more than 4.5 million whitefish fry – peled and round-nosed whitefish – over that time.
