Over 27,000 Students Undertook Internships at Rosneft’s Enterprises in 5 Years
Over the five years more than 27,000 students from Russian universities have undertaken an internship at Rosneft’s subsidiaries. They were from M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and Far Eastern Federal University, among others. Such practice allows future professionals to effectively apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in universities. Internship programmes help to acquire skills not only in corporate training centers but also directly at production facilities.
Rosneft works with 189 educational organisations, including 76 universities and 57 colleges. This partnership is conducted within the framework of continues education system which includes school as its first step, then university and then internship. The programme has been in place since 2005 and ensures a steady inflow of young specialists with a high level of training.
Thanks to its development Rosneft subsidiaries have employed almost 6,000 graduates of profile universities over the last five years. The Company rewards not only the best students but also teachers for their high academic and research achievements. Since 2018 students have received more than 3,700 corporate scholarships and teachers have received around 1,000 grants.
Rosneft has established 26 specialised departments in leading Russian profile universities. The Company’s experts take part in the implementation of educational programmes in the areas demanded by the oil industry such as digitalisation in geology, field development and operation, design and engineering of key business processes, technologies and production. The basic chairs implement specialised master’s programmes, hold conferences and internships, and develop and publish educational and methodological materials.
The Company’s enterprises directly participate in the implementation of unique additional education programmes for students at universities. For example, Vostsibneftegaz, together with the Institute of Oil and Gas of Siberian Federal University, has launched the Engineering Academy programme, and supported by Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz, the university is implementing the Professional Competence Development System programme. The key objective of such projects is to train engineering and management personnel with interdisciplinary competencies. Students from different courses work in teams and solve typical industrial problems.
Rosneft, in cooperation with partner universities, is creating unique facilities for modern scientific and educational infrastructure, including the‑ Offshore Drilling Centre at the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU), the Professional Training Centre at the Grozny State Oil Technical University named after Acad. M.D. Millionshchikov, the Marine Engineering Research and Education Centre at the St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University, and many others.
Research and Education Centre at Ufa State Petroleum Technological University opened in December 2022 supported by the Company. The Rosneft-USPTU Centre is fitted with the latest equipment, some of which have no analogues. More than 800 students and postgraduates will be educated here annually. The research and educational centre has 15 educational clusters, consisting of 26 specialised laboratories (exploration and drilling; field development and production), 8 digital modelling classrooms and 2 technosphere safety laboratories.
Rosneft helps its partners develop their material and technical base. The Company annually funds computer, interactive and educational laboratory equipment for educational institutions and the renovation of classrooms and laboratories. For example, new laboratories have been set up at Samara State Technical University with the Company’s support, which will improve the education of students. The Samara enterprises – Kuibyshev, Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran refineries,
Novokuibyshevsk lubricants and additives plant and Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company – have equipped laboratories of the region’s leading university with training simulators, which reproduce technological processes of modern production.
The Company also provides opportunities to develop the competencies of the research and teaching staff at its partner universities. With the Company’s grant support, educators carry out exploratory research on relevant topics determined by Rosneft’s Scientific and Technical Council. Researches have been carried out in 95 areas since 2019. The results are taken into account by the Company’s scientific and design institutes to assess the feasibility of launching new innovative projects. The exploratory research programme involves 23 universities in 14 regions of Russia.
Teachers also undertake internships with students. For example, teachers at the Saratov Refinery learn about the refinery’s history, its production structure and the prospects for the development of the oil industry. Teachers also visit technology units where they gain valuable knowledge from experts in the field, which they share with students.
Rosneft also works with technical schools and colleges. For example, a large-scale programme for the comprehensive training of skilled workers and engineers for Vostok Oil’s flagship project is being implemented in Krasnoyarsk Territory. In addition to the Siberian Federal University, the Company’s partners in the region include 7 organisations of secondary professional education. Under Vostok Oil’s needs, the partner colleges, with the participation of expert practitioners, have modernised their educational programmes to meet corporate requirements for workers’ qualifications and professional standards. Over 1,000 students started their first year in 2022 in high-demand specialities.
Rosneft is an industrial partner of professional educational organisations in the Young Professionals and Professionality projects as part of the Education national project. The enterprises of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center in Primorsky Territory have become members of the educational and production cluster in the shipbuilding area.
In addition, Rosneft’s subsidiaries hold a wide range of career guidance events for students: meetings with employees, veterans and young professionals, open days and training sessions. Students take an active part in corporate events and scientific and technical conferences. For example, SamaraNIPIneft held a research grant competition for students at Samara State University in 2022. As a result of the expert assessment, the 12 best projects were selected and participants received grants to develop their scientific work.
