Rosneft Holds Snowboarding Competition in Irkutsk Region

The Angarsk Petrochemical Company (part of Rosneft’s oil refining complex) organised a snowboarding competition for oil workers in Baikalsk on a famous course along the ridge of the Khamar-Daban Mountains.

The snowboarding competition is one of the areas of Rosneft’s Energy of Life corporate programme, which is aimed at developing mass sports and healthy lifestyle culture among employees of Rosneft’s subsidiaries.

Nearly 150 oil workers from 39 companies took part in the competition. Athletes from 16 regions, including Moscow, Ufa, Samara, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and others, took part in the competition. The snowboarders competed in the parallel slalom event. They had to pass 22 goalposts and descend a 450-metre course with a 60-metre drop. There were professional referees on the course to monitor the progress of the athletes.

Sixteen competitors made it to the final. Maxim Makarov from Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha won the men’s event. Yulia Zinchenko from the Tyumen Oil Research Centre was the best women’s time. The awards ceremony was held on the top of Sobolinaya Mountain, overlooking Baikal.

The Angarsk Petrochemical Company ensured a high level of organisation of the competition. The participants and guests of the event were accommodated at the enterprise’s recreation centre. The athletes visited the Baikal State Reserve and took part in a fascinating tour of the world’s deepest freshwater lake.

Support of mass sports in the regions of operation is one of the important areas of Rosneft’s social policy. The Company holds annual mass competitions – Summer and Winter Sports Games – in which more than 20,000 employees take part.

Rosneft finances the construction of ice rinks, sports centres and multifunctional sport venues. The Company supports amateur and professional sports. The number of oil workers actively involved in sport is increasing every year.
