RN-Purneftegaz Plants Record Number of Trees

RN-Purneftegaz, part of Rosneft’s oil and gas production complex, has planted more than 590,000 pine seedlings on 159 hectares in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in 2022. It is the absolute record in the enterprise’s history.

Rosneft devotes considerable attention to reforestation activities, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, and combating climate change. Employees of the Company and its subsidiaries have planted more than 18 million seedlings of various tree species over the past three years.

Forest areas for afforestation are designated by the YNAO’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Most of the land provided was formerly forest that had died from natural causes unrelated to human industrial activity. The area covered by the seedlings is equivalent to more than two hundred and twenty football fields.

According to ecologists, the Yamal forest grows very slowly: due to climatic conditions, the pine grows an average of 15 centimetres per year. The employees regularly visit the reforestation area to monitor the survival rate of the trees. RN-Purneftegaz plans to plant more than 150 hectares of Scots pine seedlings over the next three years.
