Samotlorneftegaz Volunteers Clean Up Shores of Kymyl-Emtor taiga lake

Samotlorneftegaz, which is part of Rosneft’s oil production complex, held an environmental clean-up day at Kymyl-Emtor Lake as part of the Water of Russia national campaign. Over 300 enterprise volunteers cleaned 6km of coastline and collected and removed 48m3 of rubbish. The sorted plastics and glass were sent for recycling.

Kymyl-Emtor is one of the cleanest lakes in the suburbs of Nizhnevartovsk, a favourite place for family recreation of the city’s residents. The enterprise’s volunteers have been keeping the lake’s shoreline clean for 15 years. In addition to regular clean-ups, workers have also created comfortable recreation areas on the shore. The aim of the project is not only to preserve a unique body of water, but also to promote environmental awareness among the local population.

In order to achieve the environmental performance indicators and long-term goals set out in the Rosneft 2030 strategy, Samotlorneftegaz is improving its environmental management approaches and increasing the scope of its environmental activities.

Volunteering is becoming an increasingly important part of corporate life. As part of the national Green Spring campaign, 90 volunteers held a clean-up day on Heroes of Samotlor Square in Nizhnevartovsk, collecting 16m3 of rubbish and treating tree trunks for insects.

Volunteers are also actively involved in «green» activities on a regional scale, including cleaning up the banks of major tributaries of the Ob River. This year, the enterprise’s young specialists took part in the district eco-run and helped collect 24 m3 of waste from the city’s territory.

Samotlorneftegaz also supports environmental education projects for the younger generation. At the EcoQuant Children’s Club, which was opened with Rosneft’s support as part of a cooperation agreement with the Yugra government, oil companies are implementing an educational programme to promote the conscious use of resources and competent waste management among young people.
