Komsomolsk Refinery Invests 2 Billion Rubles in Environment-Oriented Projects in 2022

The Komsomolsk Refinery (part of Rosneft’s refining complex) has invested 2 billion rubles in environment-oriented protection measures in 2022. The refinery has reduced its air emissions by 2.2% compared to 2021, a 7% reduction over the last four years.

Environmental impact has been reduced through the modernisation of production facilities, including primary oil refineries, the introduction of digital process control and the implementation of operational efficiency projects.

The enterprise is building modern environmental facilities. Among the biggest projects are wastewater treatment plants with biomembrane treatment. It is one of the most advanced technologies for the thorough treatment of water from organic and mineral substances. Another important project for Komsomolsk-on-Amur is the second phase of the reservoir of the Klyukvenny stream. The first phase, completed in 2022, involved the construction of a two-kilometre-long concrete reservoir. It prevented the area of several streets in Komsomolsk-on-Amur from being flooded during the highwater period. As part of the second stage of the project, a trestle is being installed for automatic water level fluctuation monitoring devices in Klyukvenny, as well as pumping stations for the stormwater drainage system.

Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The company aims to minimize its environmental impact and achieve a leading position in the field of environmentally friendly production.

The Komsomolsk refinery makes a significant contribution to the preservation of biodiversity in the Khabarovsk Territory. In 2022, the enterprise has planted about six thousand seedlings of various tree species. The enterprise implements a responsible waste management policy – last year 100% of waste was sent for recycling and reuse, including 22 tonnes of waste paper, which is one of the highest indicators among Rosneft’s enterprises.
