Vostsibneftegaz Supports Scientists’ Environmental Studies

With the support of Vostsibneftegaz (part of Rosneft’s oil production complex), specialists from the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences conducted a comprehensive study on the state of coniferous forests in a changing climate.

Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The Company has a number of comprehensive programmes for the conservation and restoration of natural resources, including the use of modern technology.

The project aims to analyse coniferous forests and study the relationship between different weather factors, including pyrogenic factors. The study has important practical implications for the residents of the Evenki district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, where the forest area exceeds 63 million hectares.

During the analysis, specialists from the Krasnoyarsk Science Centre studied the data set for 2001-2022 and determined that the area of burned land amounted to 5.5 million hectares.

Based on the study, ecologists will determine the dynamics of pyrogenic factors, trends in metabolic processes in the ecosystem of Evenkia and other areas with a continental climate, as well as the rate of vegetation recovery in areas dominated by larch, spruce and cedar forests.

Over nine years, Vostsibneftegaz has supported more than 30 research projects through grant programmes. These include studies of the population of wild reindeer – a bioindicator species of the Arctic zone – musk deer, maral, Siberian sable and the rare lesser white-fronted goose. Thanks to the enterprise, scientists developed the first Red Book of Evenkia, studied the ecosystem of the Tunguska Reserve and biotechnologies of artificial reproduction of Siberian taimen.

Note for Editors:
