Festival of Northern Culture Held in Krasnoyarsk Supported by Rosneft

In honour of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, Krasnoyarsk hosted the Festival of Northern Culture. The event was organised by Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz and Vostsibneftegaz, Rosneft’s production enterprises in the Krasnoyarsk territory.

Supporting the indigenous minorities of the North to preserve their national culture, traditional way of life and improve their living conditions is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s activities in its operating regions. The Company has approved and is implementing a large-scale programme to support the cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the North. The promotion of national holidays is an important part of this programme.

The main event of the festival was the National Arts Exhibition and Fair, which showcased traditional clothing, reindeer skin products, jewellery and paintings from the Nordic peoples. The audience had the opportunity to see unique performances by ethnic creative groups, listen to national music and singing. At the festival site, there were competitions in the Northern Multiathlon and master classes dedicated to folklore and traditional arts.

A highlight of the event was the street art contest «Colours of the North». About 30 artists from Krasnoyarsk and other cities of the region presented their works. Street artists used cubic constructions placed on the banks of the Yenisei as canvases. In a few hours, each face of the cube was transformed into a picture dedicated to the North of Krasnoyarsk – its nature, its people, its indigenous culture. The open-air exhibition will delight the city’s residents until the end of the summer.

Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz and Vostsibneftegaz operate in the Evenki district of the Krasnoyarsk territory, where more than 20 indigenous nationalities live. Each year, Rosneft enterprises provide assistance to remote villages and indigenous communities, enabling them to maintain their traditional way of life.

Supporting the culture and traditional way of life of the indigenous people of Evenkiya is one of the key lines of the social work of Vostsibneftegaz. During the years of the work in the region, Vostsibneftegaz has implemented a lot of social, charitable and grant programmes, running since 2014. During this time, the enterprise has supported more than 20 scientific projects, including projects to study the population of wild reindeer, a bioindicator species of the Arctic zone, Siberian sable and lesser white-fronted goose, to preserve the Evenki language, to study the ecosystems of the Tungusky reserve, to develop the first Red Book of Evenkia, biotechnology for artificial reproduction of Siberian taimen, R&D substantiation of bread production from Jerusalem artichoke flour for northern residents.

The implementation of the grant schemes helps save the unique natural environment, national culture, traditional way of life and cultural authenticity of the indigenous population of Evenkia.
