Rosneft automates laboratory tests
Specialists from Rosneft's research institute in Tyumen have upgraded the RN-Lab corporate information system developed to automate laboratory-based core and formation fluid analysis. Thanks to new functions, RN-Lab describes sedimentary rocks and recognizes various targets, such as fossil remains of living organisms, in photographs. The research results are stored by the information system for further training of the computer for automatic core description.
Development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 strategy. The Company places a priority on innovation activities and the use of breakthrough technological approaches, defining technological leadership as a key factor of competitiveness in the oil market.
The RN-Lab information system is a digital twin of the laboratory, which, by automating routine operations, reduces labor costs and increases the efficiency of laboratory tests by 3-5%. Its software modules contain complete information on the processes of core and formation fluid analysis. To date, 8 modules have been developed: "Research management", "Planning", "Quality management", "Core", "Fluids", "Equipment", "Whole core" and "Lithology". The introduction of RN-Lab has enabled a significant reduction in laboratory test labor costs; for example, the reduction of this parameter in the process of whole core analysis reached 25%.
