Igor Sechin opened the Special Session at the XVII Verona Eurasian Economic Forum

Igor Sechin, Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft, presented the keynote speech ‘Farewell to Illusions. World Energy in Thucydides‘ Trap’. The XVII Verona Eurasian Economic Forum in 2024 is being held in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.

‘It is highly symbolic that our meeting this time is taking place in this very place, one of the most ancient centres not only of Eurasia, but also of all mankind, which for over seven thousand years has remained a crossroads of civilisations and cultures,’ said Igor Sechin, opening the Special Session.

Today Ras Al Khaimah is part of the United Arab Emirates, a leading player in the global energy market, where the pulse of world trade beats, major financial flows cross and decisions of key importance for the whole world are made, said the Head of Rosneft. Igor Sechin congratulated the forum participants on the 53rd anniversary of the United Arab Emirates, which is being celebrated this week, and thanked Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Emir of Ras Al Khaimah, for creating excellent conditions for work.

The Special Session is attended by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and High Technology of the United Arab Emirates and Head of ADNOC, Abdullah bin Tuq Al Marri, Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain's Minister of Petroleum and Environment Mohammed bin Dane, Reliance Industries Executive Director Panda Madhusudana Shiva Prasad, Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SOCAR Mikail Jabbarov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of ONGC Arun Kumar Singh, Andrey Kostin, President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank, Nobuo Tanaka, former head of the International Energy Agency and a recognised global energy expert, Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR, Dmitry Pumpyansky, Board Member of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Donald Morema, CEO of Manpower Projects, and Ratshitagangga Tshilidzi, Senior Partner of Manpower Projects, and Antonio Fallico, President of the Association ‘Let's Cognise Eurasia’.
