The photo exhibition “Arctic Attraction”” opened in Moscow with the support of Rosneft

The annual “Arctic Attraction”” photo exhibition, spupported by Rosneft, opened on Tsvetnoy Boulevard in Moscow. The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with Innopraktika, a non-governmental development institute.

The “Arctic Attraction” exhibition is designed to showcase the beauty of the Far North. The boulevard features unique footage from the Company’s environmental atlases, photos from Rosneft’s research expeditions and images of production facilities. Residents and visitors to Moscow can admire icebergs and the astonishing beauty of Arctic flora and fauna, and learn how large-scale scientific research is carried out in the region. The exhibition is on display until January 25.

Rosneft is implementing a comprehensive scientific research programme in the Arctic region. Rosneft has carried more than 50 expeditions in five Arctic seas since 2012 and gathered a one-of-a-kind data set on the Arctic region. There has not been such extensive scientific work since the Soviet era. Geological, oceanological, hydrometeorological and environmental studies are carried out in cooperation with the nation’s leading research organisations. The diversity of the subjects of these studies is illustrated by the photographs in the exhibition.

Earlier this year, Rosneft launched a new biodiversity conservation programme called Tamura. It aims to update information on the status of the region’s key animal species, including the bioindicators. Until 2027, the Taimyr Peninsula will host studies of reindeer, polar bear, valuable bird species, and fish in the mouth of the Yenisei River. A total of 10 expeditions will be conducted over 4 years.

Rosneft and Innopraktika are also implementing a major environmental project in the White Sea. As part of the expeditions, the scientists repeated the route taken by the famous Soviet hydrobiologist Konstantin Deryugin more than 100 years ago. The experts plan to collect data on the current state of the White Sea biota and assess changes in the region’s ecosystems over the past 100 years.

Rosneft also continued geological exploration in the Arctic this year. The project, which has been running since 2020, already covers all the seas of the Russian Arctic. The purpose of the expedition is core sampling for subsurface imaging of the studied regions, as well as to estimate the extent of the Russian continental offshore in the Arctic Ocean.

The results of Rosneft’s many years of work studying the Russian North are presented in a series of environmental atlases published by the Company in collaboration with Innopraktika. Since 2016, more than 10 scientific works have already been published, including: «Kara Sea», «Laptev Sea», «Marine Mammals of the Russian Arctic and Far East», «Black and Azov Seas», «Species — Biological Indicators of the State of Arctic Marine Ecosystems», «Barents Sea».
