Rosneft Sponsors Russian Mas-Wrestling Championship in Yakutia
The 12th Russian Mas-Wrestling Championship was held in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), with the support of Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha (a Rosneft subsidiary). This event was organised to mark the Year of Unity of the Peoples of the Country. This traditional martial art, originating from the cultures of the peoples of the North, has been included in the All-Russian Register of Sports.
The major event was attended by over 150 of the country's most prominent athletes from 30 different regions. The competition was conducted as an individual championship across different weight categories for both male and female participants.
Mas-wrestling is a traditional Yakut sport in which competitors tug a pole whilst seated. In order to achieve victory, an athlete must demonstrate not only exceptional physical strength and stamina, but also a high level of tactical preparation, coordination of movement, and the ability to maintain total concentration in the face of fierce competition.
Mas-wrestling is a very popular sport in Yakutia. The remarkable sport is gaining recognition both domestically in Russia and on the global stage, with national federations established in 52 countries. The first World Championships in 2014 and the 4th World Championships in 2022 were held in Yakutsk, solidifying the republic's status as a global centre for the sport.
The winners of the competition will earn the right to represent their country at the upcoming World Championships in Kazan.
Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha successfully implements social and charitable projects in the regions where it operates. For instance, oil workers provided support for the organisation of the 4th Congress of Reindeer Herders of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Yakutsk in 2025. The 22nd Manchaara Games National Sports Festival took place in the village of Ytyk-Kyuel in the Tattinsky District, with the Company's support; the event was attended by over seven thousand athletes, volunteers and spectators.
