Rosneft Sponsors National Raven Day Festival in Tyumen Region
Supported by RN-Uvatneftegaz (part of Rosneft's oil production complex), one of the most revered ancient festivals of the Khanty and Mansi peoples — Raven Day — was held in the Tyumen Region. It marks the onset of spring, the rejuvenation of the natural world and the commencement of a new cycle of life. According to tradition, it is the raven that first returns to the northern lands, bringing warmth and prosperity.
A significant number of guests from various districts of the Tyumen Region, as well as from Yugra and Yamal, gathered at the Uvas Mir Khot Ethnographic Centre (House of the Northern Peoples) for the celebrations. The celebration opened with a theatrical performance and folk groups singing traditional songs and dancing. The sound of traditional instruments — tambourines, the vargan and flutes — conveyed the spirit of the taiga as it awoke in spring, creating a unique atmosphere.
The northern combined competitions were a particular highlight of the event. The participants competed in a series of activities, including throwing the tynzyan to a reindeer pole, jumping over sledges, and archery. Guests were also invited to put their strength, accuracy and agility to the test. The children participated in active games and contests inspired by national customs.
During a tour of the ethnographic centre, which was built and is being developed with the support of RN-Uvatneftegaz, guests gained insight into the traditional way of life of the indigenous peoples. At Uvas Mir Khot, a Khanty log cabin and a Nenets raw hide tent have been recreated. A lean-to, constructed on high stilts, that was utilised to safeguard supplies from both animals and damp. In the taiga, boats (oblas) and narts were the primary means of transportation, as well as being instrumental for hunting and fishing.
The festivities culminated in a tasting of traditional dishes, including a rich fish soup made with northern fish, fluffy porridge and tea made with taiga herbs, as well as wild berries and nuts.
One of the key areas of Rosneft's social policy is the support and preservation of the national cultures of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional way of life. The Company's enterprises implement numerous social projects in their regions of operation, developing infrastructure in northern villages, supporting reindeer herding families, and improving the material and technical base of educational and social institutions.
