Syzran Oil Refinery Volunteers Plant 3,000 Pine Seedlings in Commemoration of Great Patriotic War Heroes

Volunteers from the Syzran Oil Refinery (part of Rosneft) planted 3,000 pine seedlings in the Racheysky Forest District of the Samara Region. The aim of this environmental campaign is to preserve the historical memory of those who gave their lives defending their homeland on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War and who worked selflessly in the rear.

The Syzran Oil Refinery and the region’s entire oil industry played a key role in the history of the Victory. Here, in a very short time, they found a way to extract Devonian oil and built an oil refinery, the output of which was already being supplied to the Stalingrad Front by July 1942. The planted pine trees will serve as a living memorial to the courage of our defenders. Their unconditional love for their motherland and their patriotism set an unshakable example for present and future generations.

The environmental campaign was held in the Racheysky Forest – one of the Volga region’s most valuable natural heritage sites, covering an area of around 10,000 hectares. This unique taiga forest in the south-east of the European part of Russia was severely damaged by a major wildfire several years ago. The Company’s volunteers have been conducting reforestation campaigns for six years. Together with students from the Syzran branch of Samara State Technical University – a Rosneft partner university – more than 30,000 pine and birch seedlings have been planted.

Preservation of the environment is an integral part of the corporate culture and social policy of Rosneft. The Company implements large-scale environmental programmes aimed at minimising environmental impact, improving the eco-friendly production, and preserving and replenishing natural ecosystems.

For reference:

The Syzran Oil Refinery is an enterprise of Rosneft's Samara group of refineries. As part of the corporate Platform for Good Deeds programme, as well as federal environmental initiatives, the plant’s employees, together with their families, take an active part in tree-planting events, the clean-up of natural areas and the cleaning of water bodies.
