Rosneft Supports Development of Medicine and Healthcare Technologies in Regions of Operation
7 April is World Health Day, which aims to raise awareness of health issues and disease prevention. Rosneft plays an active role in creating modern infrastructure and a supportive environment for the development of medicine, healthy lifestyles and mass sports in the regions where it operates. This represents a significant contribution to achieving national goals for increasing life expectancy, as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which are aimed at ensuring well-being for all ages.
Rosneft is the main technology partner of the Federal Research and Development Programme for Genetic Technologies. The Biotechnology Campus was established as part of this programme. This research facility is dedicated to discovering and implementing cutting-edge solutions in genetics. It is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and has its own engineering and IT infrastructure.
The Biotechnology Campus is implementing the ‘100,000+ Me’ National Genetic Initiative. The initiative’s primary aim is to sequence and analyse the genomes of Russian citizens in order to identify hereditary predispositions to serious diseases. To date, more than 100,000 Russian genomes have been entered into the initiative’s database. This research has enabled the genetic causes of diseases to be identified in over 10,000 patients. During the course of the project, thousands of genetic variants associated with 500 rare diseases have been identified. This data will form the basis for the development of personalised medicine in Russia.
Rosneft is investing heavily in modernising medical infrastructure and supporting projects that aim to improve the accessibility and quality of healthcare. For instance, three major hospitals in Ufa received state-of-the-art medical equipment in 2025, including video-endoscopic and laparoscopic systems for minimally invasive surgery, X-ray and fluorography machines, ultrasound scanners, surgical instruments, and innovative operating tables. Syzran Central City Hospital received modern paediatric surgical equipment and a perinatal centre was fitted with new equipment. This facility has been fitted with an operating table, a shadowless surgical lamp and an open resuscitation system for newborns. This new equipment improves the quality of medical care and expands the range of treatment options available to patients.
Rosneft allocates significant funds to developing modern sports infrastructure and actively encourages its employees, their families, and local residents to participate in sports and fitness initiatives. Thanks to the Company’s support, a fully equipped facility for taking the GTO physical fitness tests has opened in Samara, and a new ice hockey rink has been built in Sukhodol, Samara Region. Gymnastics complexes, basketball courts and obstacle courses have been installed in Tyumen and Turtas. Sports grounds have been renovated and equipped in Pyt-Yakh, and a modular ski base has been launched for the Olympic reserve school in the Surgut District. Sports schools and clubs, including inclusive hockey teams, have been provided with equipment, kits and professional gear. Rosneft also supports the development of motor sports, encouraging young people to lead active and healthy lifestyles. To this end, the Company has purchased professional motorcycles, enabling participation in national-level competitions.
Rosneft’s enterprises organise major public sporting events. With the Company’s support, the 33rd Troitsky Ski Marathon took place on Sakhalin, attracting nearly 1,000 participants. In Yakutia, the Russian Mas-Wrestling Championship and the Manchaara Games Spartakiad were held, with over 7,000 athletes and spectators in attendance. Other events include the inter-regional Taiga winter race, alpine skiing tournaments, the Rosneft Puck corporate ice hockey tournament which brought together 16 teams from 11 regions, the First Puck street hockey festival and the Sergey Belov National Youth Basketball Cup in Tomsk. These and many other events span dozens of regions across Russia.
The promotion of mass sports is one of Rosneft and its subsidiaries’ key areas of social commitment. The Company funds the construction of ice arenas, sports complexes and multi-purpose sports grounds in the regions of its operations. The Company organises large-scale competitions, the Summer and Winter Sports Games, every year, in which more than 20,000 employees take part.
As part of Rosneft’s corporate sports and wellness initiative, Energy of Life, employees regularly participate in sports and various competitions, including those at the federal level. Energy of Life unites over 134,000 employees.
