Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and Rosmorport with support of Rosneft agreed to build a unique icebreaker

Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex and Rosmorport signed a contract to design and build a unique icebreaker with a draught of about 3 meters and capacity of 6.4 MW.

The ice breaker will be used to escort vessels in Russian Federation ports and port approaches, including for the need of marine terminals operated by Rosneft.

The vessel will be built under the supervision of the Russian Maritime Register and will be operated under the flag of the Russian Federation. The first ship of the series of four light-draught icebreakers is scheduled to be built by late 2021.

The contract was signed in furtherance of the agreement concluded in September 2017 during the Eastern Economic Forum.

Implementation of the arrangements with Rosmorport will enable Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex to expand its product range and gain additional experience in building icebreakers and ice-class vessels. The long-term order from Rosmorport for the design and building of ice-breakers will make it possible to reduce the ship-building costs because of the series of orders.

The overall order for high ice-class vessels and icebreakers placed with Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex is already over 15 vessels in scope.
